Creating a Distraction-Free Learning Environment

In accordance with New York State’s new “Distraction-Free Schools” law, the Troy City School District is committed to fostering a focused, engaging, and safe learning environment for all students. In 2024-2025, our secondary schools implemented a distraction free learning environment for students in grades 6-12. Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, all internet-enabled personal devices, such as smartphones, must be secured and inaccessible during the school day for students in grades K-12.

Troy Middle School and Troy High School students will continue to use Yondr during the school day. Elementary students are discouraged from bringing devices to school. If a student brings a device to school, it must be silenced or turned off and stored in a locked container in the classroom until the end of the day.

Below you will find links to the district’s official policy and details about how Yondr is implemented at TMS and THS.
