Residents of the Troy City School District approved the proposed $146,348,609 budget for the 2026-2027 school year by a vote of 639-72 (89.87%). The budget, which includes a 0% tax levy increase for the fifth time in six years, maintains all student programs and staffing while adding additional supports based on student need.
Residents also passed a proposition creating a new capital reserve fund by a vote of 625-84 (88.15%), which will allow the district to complete future capital building projects with no additional tax impact on residents. Due to the 98% building aid ratio included in the Wynantskill UFSD annexation, Troy CSD will be able to complete up to $300 million in building updates and renovations over the next ten years. This will be funded with surplus or one-time revenues over the next several years.
“Thank you to the Troy voters for once again supporting our school budget and trusting us to provide a sound education for their children. The future is bright for the Troy City School District, and I look forward to building on our successes together,” said Superintendent John Carmello.
Three individuals, Thomas Mayo (598), Matthew Flowers, Jr. (605), and Diana Heckman (598), were each re-elected to the Board of Education for three-year terms beginning July 1, 2026.
“This budget allows us to continue the progress we’ve made over the last several years. Thank you to the Troy community for their partnership with us and for supporting all the great things going on in our schools every day,” said Board of Education President Ebony Pompey-Conway. “Congratulations to Tom, Matt and Diana on their reelection to the board.”
The Board of Education will meet Wednesday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. at Troy Middle School.
