The Troy Indoor Track team delivered a standout performance at the Section 2 Championship Meet held Saturday, January 31 at Hudson Valley Community College, bringing home two sectional titles and multiple personal records.
Freshman Shamiyah Banks captured her first sectional championship, winning the Girls 300m with a time of 44.64. Banks also placed third in the 55m, finishing in 7.90.
Senior Julian Monk claimed the Boys 300m sectional title with a winning time of 38.42, adding to a strong day that also included a fifth-place finish in the Boys 55m (7.05).
Both Banks and Monk will advance to the State Qualifier Meet on Feb. 14, along with the Girls 4×200 relay team of Tenaj Mellette, Shanell Regal, Gianna Frierson and Banks, which placed sixth at sectionals.
Several Troy athletes also posted personal records during the meet, including:
- Shanell Regal – 55-meter hurdles (10.56)
- Gianna Frierson – 300 meters (48.95)
- Tenaj Mellette – 400 meters (49.01)
- Lillian Perkins – 1,000 meters (3:40.86)
Additional highlights from the championships included strong finishes across multiple events:
- Boys 1,000 meters: Louis McColley, fourth place (2:50.47)
- Boys 1,600 meters: Louis McColley, fifth place (5:02.48)
- Weight throw: Dayvon Holland-Sostre, sixth place (46 feet, 1.75 inches)
- Boys 4×200 relay: KaahJe’ Newell, Wesley Lyons, Ethan Hoxha and Julian Monk, sixth place (1:47.21)
The Troy Indoor Track team’s performance capped a successful sectional meet and set the stage for athletes continuing their postseason push.
