Breaking a 17-year drought, the Troy Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated Saratoga Springs on the road 48-33 in the season opener, notching their first win vs the Blue Streaks since 2007.

Coming off a three-win last year under first-year head coach Will Harris, the win over a Class AAA Suburban Council team carried some extra weight for the Flying Horses.

Eighth-grade guard Amaya Harris led the scoring for Troy with 14 points, and forward Kiana Tiernan (also in eighth grade) added 11, more than half of which came during a 17-5 run in the third quarter to retake the lead.

The girls will work to carry the momentum from last night’s win into the home opener on Friday vs Broadalbin-Perth. That game will tipoff at 6:45.
