Please read this letter and information from TMS Principal Ian McShane

Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Students,

This year’s 8th-grade class has been with us since the beginning of the pandemic. Despite all of the obstacles and challenges, they have shown tremendous growth, and we are looking forward to celebrating with them at our Moving Up Ceremony.

Our Moving Up Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10 am. In order for our 8th-grade students to attend and participate, they are required to pass all subjects. More specific information regarding the ceremony (mandatory rehearsals, location, dress code, etc.) is available below.

Proper behavior is expected of each student throughout the school year. Based on our Code of Conduct, any 8th-grade student who is suspended within 30 days of the Moving Up Ceremony will not be permitted to participate in this event.

In addition, in order to be promoted to 9th grade, students are required to pass 3 out of 4 core-area classes. Core classes include Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts.

Please review these policies with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Moving Up Day Ceremony Information

Due to limited space, each student participating in the Moving Up Ceremony will be allocated three guest tickets. Any requests for additional tickets (maximum of 2 additional tickets) will be taken on a first come first served basis (no guarantees – we will do our best).  Call the main office at 518-328-5305 and leave a message regarding the number of additional tickets requested (maximum of 2). Tickets will be distributed to the students during the 2nd mandatory rehearsal on 6/22.

Mandatory Rehearsals will be held on June 21 and 22 during the school day. Attendance at the rehearsals is mandatory to participate in the ceremony. Students that do not attend the rehearsal will not be allowed to participate in the event.

Students participating in the ceremony are required to meet in the TMS cafeteria at 9:15 a.m. The auditorium doors will open at 9:15 a.m. Please do not arrive early. Tickets will be required for admission into the auditorium for the ceremony. The students participating in the ceremony will be seated together alphabetically. There will be open seating for family members attending the ceremony.

Everyone must remain seated during the entire ceremony.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, we ask that everyone remain seated as we will dismiss the student participants first.
