School 2 held a ribbon cutting for their new textile recycling bin on June 1.

On Wednesday, June 1, School 2 held a ribbon cutting for their new clothing and textile recycling bin. Students worked with representatives from Russell Sage College and the City of Troy’s Recycling Department to study textile recycling, and used STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) to develop a program to encourage others to donate textiles for recycling.

Students created outreach materials for the building and the community to demonstrate the benefits of textile recycling.

This project was a great way to show students that STEAM is a way to solve real world problems and is not just limited to the classroom. It has also served as a leadership opportunity for a select group of students who have been able to work closely with the city and other partners to research a problem and share what they learned with their school community.

Great job to all our students who participated!
