Dear Families,

In the wake of yesterday’s school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, we are grieving with the families, students and community of Robb Elementary School. This incident, coupled with the senseless mass shooting in Buffalo and other recent events, is heartbreaking. It is hard to believe that we continue to see such senseless acts of violence in our country. Please join me in keeping all those affected in your thoughts.

Please know that keeping our students safe at school remains the top priority in our district. Each of our buildings continually operate in a state of lockout – which means all exterior doors are locked, and any visitors to the building must be granted access through the main entrance. We have a strong relationship with the Troy Police Department, and our security staff and School Resource Officers work diligently all year to maintain our readiness in the event of an emergency.

Districtwide, we work hard to support our students’ social-emotional and mental health needs. We know that children and teens will process news like this in different ways. Our Student Support Team, consisting of our school psychologists, social workers and counselors, is always available for any student who might need support. Please reach out to your child’s building principal if you have any questions or concerns, or would like information on accessing our Student Support Team.

I thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide your children with not only the very best education, but also a safe environment in which to learn.

Sincerely,
Mr. John Carmello
Superintendent of Schools
