Dear Families:
As we shared on Monday, last week, Governor Hochul held a webinar with superintendents to discuss her desire to keep schools open across the State. She pledged millions of at-home test kits to schools to distribute to families. We have received our supply of at-home test kits, and they will be distributed to each student to take home in their backpack tomorrow.
There are important items to know about the use of these tests:
-
When used at home, these at-home test kits should be used only as a screening tool to provide peace of mind.
-
At-home test kits do not qualify as official test results.
-
Students testing positive using an at-home test kit must obtain a follow-up lab-confirmed COVID test. The State has recently opened their own additional testing sites. Please visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.
gov/find-test-site-near-you to find available locations. -
Access to remote learning will not be available without an official, lab-confirmed test.
-
A negative test does not permit a student to be released early from a mandatory quarantine.
We ask for your continued cooperation in following our established COVID protocols, including mask wearing, physical distancing, and staying home when sick. We will continue to keep you updated with any changes to conditions or protocols. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
John Carmello
Superintendent of Schools
