Dear Troy CSD Families,

The first few days of school have been largely positive and we are thrilled to be able to welcome everyone back for in-person learning. We thank everyone for their cooperation and patience as we help our students and staff adjust.

While we are proud of our start to the year, we are writing to you today to discuss the transportation issues that many families have reported. Please know that we hear your concerns and we sincerely apologize. We are working diligently with Durham, the bus company we contract with, to solve these problems.

As you are aware, organizations everywhere are facing staff shortages and this has unfortunately impacted Durham and other transportation companies in the area as well. We are facing an extreme shortage of drivers. We have been assured that they expect to have more drivers ready to start within the next few weeks, which will alleviate most of the issues we’ve been experiencing relating to late pickup and dropoff.

In the meantime, we have made internal changes and will be working closely with Durham in order to improve our communication with parents. We understand that this has been an issue, and we are adjusting our procedures in order to solve it. As of today, we have developed a new process with Durham and our after-school program partners so that we are informed of late buses or other issues as soon as possible.

We encourage you to sign up for text alerts and to make sure that we have your correct email address on file.  As much as we’d like to respond to every individual call that comes in, the high volume we’re receiving is preventing this. When we become aware of a late bus, we will contact parents through these channels. For information on how to sign up for text alerts, visit https://www.troycsd.org/text-alerts/. Please contact your building secretary if you have questions about your email address.

Again, we do not anticipate these issues to be long-term, but we are fully committed to improving our communication with you going forward.  We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

Sincerely,

Troy City School District
