Dear Troy Middle School Families,
I want to clear up any confusion regarding the lock down drill that took place yesterday. At 2:45 p.m., just before dismissal, the blue emergency lights were accidentally activated at Troy Middle School. Although the administration was aware it was mistakenly set off, the school continued to follow emergency protocol procedures for a lock down drill as required by law and as outlined in our safety plans.
Although students were never in any danger, we realize this may have caused distress to some students who did not know it was being treated as a drill.
Despite it being an unplanned drill, I want to thank the students and staff who acted in accordance with our safety plans and followed directions. In the event of a real emergency, I am confident that our students and staff are well prepared and would respond accordingly.
At Troy Middle School, the safety of our students is our top priority and we will continue to work to update our procedures as needed. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with questions or concerns at 518-328-5301 or mcshanei@troycsd.org.
Sincerely,
Ian McShane
Troy Middle School Principal
