On December 4, residents in the Troy City School District voted in favor of a capital project at Troy High School that will replace a portion of the roof over the classrooms. The fully-funded project will have no future tax impact on residents.
Official vote tallies are as follows: 229 (Yes), 43 (No).
The entire cost of the classroom roof project is estimated to be $3,850,000. The public has authorized the expenditure of $577,500 from the Capital Reserve Fund. The remaining $3.2 million will be borrowed in the form of a bond. The bond will be repaid over a 15-year period with State Aid funds.
“On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank the Troy community for voting in support of this project,” said Superintendent John Carmello. “A vote for this project is one in support of our commitment to the safety of our students and staff and to the quality of our facilities.”
Construction on this portion of the roof is set to begin Summer 2019. Currently, the District is undertaking an emergency project to replace the roof over the high school gymnasiums as authorized by the New York State Education Department.
Troy CSD asks residents to vote on Troy High School Roof Capital Project
On December 4, 2018 the Troy City School District community will vote on a proposition to authorize a fully-funded Capital Project at Troy High School to replace a portion of the roof. The proposal will have no additional impact on taxpayers.
At its October 17 meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously in favor of holding a special public vote on a project that would replace the portion of the roof over the classrooms. If approved, construction will begin Summer 2019.
At this meeting, the Board also authorized an emergency project to replace the roof over the gyms. This project is currently underway as authorized by the New York State Education Department.

“After examining the roofs at Troy High School, it was determined that they would need to be replaced rather quickly in order to avoid any further damage and leaks,” said Superintendent John Carmello. “We are proud of our facilities and our never-ending commitment to the safety of our students and staff. This proposal will allow us to uphold that responsibility with no additional impact on taxpayers.”
The District is working with Mosaic Associates Architects, an architecture firm the District has worked with on various Capital Projects in the past including the Infrastructure Upgrade Capital Project and the Troy Middle School project.
