Dear Families,
Welcome! We wanted to let you know how excited we are that your child will be attending School # 2 in Troy this upcoming school year! We know you want the best for your child! And so do we! We are on the same team. Our school staff and teachers have decided to participate in a project called “Family/ School Home Visit.” The purpose is for families, teachers, and school staff to get to know each of you better and talk about the hopes and dreams we have for our children.
The Home Visit is voluntary and will last about 30-40 minutes. This visit can take place in your home, on the front porch, or at another location of your choice such as your local public library, community center or church. The “Family/School Home Visit” project is not new. This project is taking place in a lot of schools around the country and in some other schools in New York. Studies show that this project has increased student academic achievement, improved attendance, and helped improve math and reading. It has brought teachers and families closer together and created opportunities for positive relationships and communication between home and school.
Your child’s teacher will be calling to set up a time for the visit. This is NOT a meeting to tell you what to do as a parent or to get you to sign up for anything. This is a time to get to know you and your child away from school so that we can listen to what you as a parent has to say about your child’s future. We also want to hear your expectations for the school and for your child’s teacher. This is also a time for you to get to know a little more about me, your child’s teacher. Your child and other family members are also welcome to take part in the Home Visit.
If you would like to learn more about Home Visits, or what a family can expect during a home visit, please visit our website to watch a short You Tube video: https://www.youtube.com/user/PTHVP .
So that we can stay focused on the reason for the Home Visit, please secure your pet(s) in another room.
We are excited about this program and look forward to meeting with you and your child.
Please contact me, at (518) 328-5410, if you have further questions.
