Tax Information

Important information regarding unpaid tax notices – Jan. 19, 2023

Some Troy residents may have recently received a “notice of unpaid taxes” in the mail. These notices were inadvertently printed two-sided by a third-party vendor, so residents may have received their own notice and a notice for another individual on the same document. It is important to note these notices do not contain any private personal information.

These notices are being reprinted single-sided, and the new, corrected copies will be mailed as soon as possible to all taxpayers who need one.

Board approves new tax collection dates
On May 19, 2021, the Troy City School District Board of Education voted in favor of changing the July and January school tax collection dates to August and February. This will allow assessors time to complete the assessment rolls and the District adequate time for billing, while giving taxpayers an extra month to pay.
First Installment
The new deadline to pay the 1st installment without penalty is August 31, 2023. Payments postmarked between September 1 and September 30, 2023, are subject to a 1% penalty. Final day of school tax collection is September 30, 2023.*
Second Installment
The new deadline to pay the 2nd installment without penalty is February 29, 2024. Payments postmarked between March 1 and March 31, 2024, are subject to a 1% penalty. Final day of school tax collection is March 31, 2024.*

*Taxes unpaid after the final day of collection are re-levied to the City (Troy) or Rensselaer County (Brunswick) for collection.
