Troy City School District residents who are interested in running for a Board of Education position should contact the Board of Education Office at 518-328-5070 or email to request nominating petitions.

Qualifications for School Board member:

Nominating petitions must be submitted to the District Clerk no later than May 1 at 5 p.m. in order to appear on the ballot for the May 21, 2019 election.

Role of the Board

The Board of Education is comprised of nine citizens who are each elected to three-year terms. This is an unpaid position. The primary responsibilities of the Board are to establish district policies; develop an annual budget for public approval; and vote on the Superintendent’s recommendations on personnel matters and contracts. Other duties include setting goals to achieve academic achievement, ratifying collective bargaining agreements as well as hire and evaluate the Superintendent.

The Board’s responsibilities and duties are derived from the State Constitution, the laws of New York State and the rulings of the New York State Commissioner of Education.

Troy’s Board of Education meets on the first and third Wednesday each month, with additional meetings as needed.
