Students in grades 4-8 from all five elementary schools and Troy Middle School advanced to the event by winning building-level competitions. More than 20 students participated in the hour-long spelling bee in the auditorium at Troy Middle School, with their teachers, family and friends cheering them on.

Elisabeth McDonald from School 18 finished second and received at $60 gift card to Market Block Books, while Troy Middle School student Angela Munao placed third and received a $40 Market Block Books gift card. The gift cards were donated by the Troy Teachers Association.
