On Friday, March 16, there will be a full scale active shooter training exercise at Troy High School, located at 1950 Burdett Avenue in Troy, NY between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. This drill will include the response from local, county and state emergency service agencies.

March 16 is a professional development day for the entire district, therefore classes are not in session in any of our buildings. No students will be involved in this drill. Troy High School staff will be participating in the drill.

Burdett Avenue will be closed between Sage Avenue and Tibbitts Avenue between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. There will be no public access to school grounds during the exercise. Signs will be posted in advance of the exercise.

Residents and motorists may notice a large amount of law enforcement and emergency vehicles during the exercise, which may include ambulances, fire trucks, police cars and more on campus property and in the surrounding area.

The drill serves as training for the school district, as well as law enforcement and emergency services and will be as realistic as possible.

The drill is the culmination of more than eight months of planning. It is a collaborative exercise with Troy City School District, Questar III BOCES, Troy Police Department, Troy Fire Department, Rensselaer County Sheriff, New York State Police, Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety, New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Samaritan Hospital/St. Peter’s Health Partners, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as well as other local and out-of-county law enforcement agencies.
